With me out of work, I'm trying to do a little work on this process when I can. As you can see, I have added a Speedway Diesel average. It is taken by adding all Speedway diesel prices in Indy, then averaging them out. Don't worry, I have an easy process that takes about a minute to do this, instead of the hour or so it would take to do it manually. I'm also trying to make this easier to read... but that's a work in process.
While we have refinery problems in the area, so far the Chicago market is tracking the NYMEX. It's something to keep an eye on, however.

Thanks, Pax. I only have to fill every three to four weeks so I haven't paid as much attention, and don't need fuel for awhile. Easier to ride out spikes I guess. A good thing!

If Speedway keeps the same formula for spikes I normally see them use, it will be near break even +10 cents, or $2.78. Michigan and NW Indiana will be above that, Indiana will be below. They may fall outside this formula, however, as there isn't much being bought on the Chicago market at the moment since everyone knows the markup is BS. Don't be surprised if there is a spike, but lower in the $2.70s for all.

I foresee a price spike today or tomorrow if the futures don't fall today. Right now I have a break even of 2.64. Anytime the average is below the break even, a spike is near.

I guess I was looking at the noon number earlier. The Chicago spot went up 16 cents today. That's bad news. A spike is very close at hand. I'm guessing if you don't get it in the morning, you'll wish you had by the afternoon in most places. Indiana will go up to $2.60-2.65. Michigan will climb about a nickel higher than that to $2.65-2.70. And good news for NW Indiana. You shouldn't be much higher than Michigan, maybe a cent or two instead of the 4 cents it has been, as the Chicago RBOB is only 4 cents over regular.
Again, fill up tonight, or very early tomorrow. Prices will go up.

I hate times like this. I am 50-50 on whether we get a spike tomorrow. I'm torn between near break even margins (at least if you are looking at the fact that Indiana wholesale adjusted should be lower than the spot price by about 5-10 cents still) and the fact that we had two spikes last week. Margins do say spike, but history says patience. Do be prepared and find someplace cheap tonight or friendly/spike resistant tomorrow, because the numbers say we should go up. But we are so close it's too hard to tell.

Indianapolis is holding steady at -2 cents margin. Indiana at -1 cent. Michigan is at +3 cents. With the rack price report on TheGasGame.com's Today in Oil page showing a 17 cent gap between Indy and Detroit last Monday, I think we will be safe to start the week without a spike. But watch here tomorrow for details on what might happen Tuesday, as a market jump may push us into another spike.

The numbers suggest (with Indiana at -3 cents margin and Michigan holding on at 1.8 cents margin) a spike is possible tomorrow. History shows, however, that two spikes in a week are really rare. With margins this close to break even, that makes the likelihood that a spike will happen to be very low.
If you need a fill up and can get gas below $2.30, you may wish to do so tonight as spike insurance. But like all insurance, you may not cash in on it.

It's not looking good for tomorrow. There are many factors pointing toward a spike for tomorrow. Yeah, the margins are at a negative (-6.29 cents in Indiana and Michigan at -1.64 cents). But that's not all. History shows that after a period of dropping, Speedway has a hair trigger when it comes to the merging of the average price and the spot price. Strangely, the low end also moved up in Indiana and Michigan.
I thought looking at the rack prices from TheGasGame.com's Today In Oil page and seeing Indianapolis' rack 9 cents power than Chicago's that it could influence whether a spike would happen. But with Indy's margin in the negative by 5 cents more than that, it doesn't help.
Nope, Indiana and Michigan will see a spike tomorrow. I expect Indiana to fall in the $2.40-2.45 range, and Michigan to fall around $2.45-$2.50. NW Indiana will see their prices rise to the $2.50-2.55 range.

While our margins look bad compared to the Chicago spot, I have it on good authority that Indy's rack prices are lower than that by 5-10 cents. Indiana's margin is almost break even, and Michigan's is almost 6 cents. We look good for the weekend.

Average gas prices are down almost 20 cents since Thursday of last week (the beginning of the 4th weekend.) Wholesale on the other hand is down almost 30 cents in the same amount of time. Prices should continue to fall over the weekend.
