I live in (Western) Washington State, and I have what is called "Good To Go." It's a pass that I have in the window. I load it with money and everytime I cross over the Tacoma Narrows Bridges, I just drive as usual on the main highway part and the scanner zaps it as well as takes a front & back photo of my license plate and deducts the fee from my account.

If in doubt, I go through the toll booth, and the scanner camera will zap it. If I get a Green light I'm GOOD TO GO. If I get a YELLOW LIGHT, it will deduct it but then I will need to make arrangements to put money on the account. I never got a RED LIGHT, so I'm not sure if that works and says NOT ENOUGH, PAY UP!

Here in Northern Illinois, we have several tollways. We have have our own version of EZ Pass called I Pass. The advantages of using the transponder is "open road" tolling where the tolls are taken without pulling off the main roadway through a toll booth.

The big reason to use the transponder is the tolls are double for paying with cash!

SammyAdams there may be some hope here. At least in Alabama, where the state is pushing to build a third bridge to the beach resort communities. One bridge is public, the other a toll road. The state seems to think if they can't take over the toll booth and bridge they'll just build one to run around it.

It's a welcome change of attitude from the previous "build toll roads everywhere" concept that has basically failed in this state something terrible.

I see something sinister in this poll. Because of the recent discussions on how much disrepair our roads have fallen, despite the hundreds of BILLION$ taken from US via "Taxation", there has been solutions offered such as the collection of tolls, in particular.

I view this as propaganda emanating from these same corrupt politicians who have already stolen and squandered our money and are looking for more feeding grounds. I say "NO MORE". Until you learn to live withing your budget like "productive" Americans (Who pay your salaries), then WE WILL NOT GIVE ANY MORE MONEY TO YOU AND WE WILL FIND YOUR REPLACEMENT, IF YOU DON'T CHANGE.

Now, I might be reading more into this poll than the innocent manner in which it might have been presented, however, I can cite a number of times when these "trial balloons" have been floated before the hammer came down.
