My deal was just ok. On top of it, I got screamed at from the car dealer because he did not like what I was willing to pay. I was ready to walk but my husband was insistent - he needed a car urgently because his old one had broken down beyond repair over one month earlier, and he was fed up carpooling and walking to work. Shows that you should never go buy a car when in need....

I got a really great deal.
I had re-leased a 2007 Chev Equinox back in 2007 and GMAC would not negotiate. So it was theirs at the end of June/09.
I did a bit of research and found the Hyundai Sonata was among the top rated so after I negotiated with several Hyundai dealers - initially for a 2009 demo - I found the 2010s had come out with better equipment that the 2009 "L" version. 2010 also has GPS and price including taxes and rust proofing and Clear Coat (plus nice little extras) was around $33,000.00
So I purchased one fully, fully loaded for about $5000 less than the equivalent from Nissan, Mazda, Ford and of course GM.

Did a couple months of online research and found a very good deal for what I wanted. I was also flexible with my requirements and timeline -- which allowed me to pickup a good deal when it came along.

I paid about what it was worth. But, I did not have to play games with the "New Vehicle SALES Manager! That is worth something with me!

2004 Mazda3 brand new off the lot with taxes included for $21000. I also got an XBOX in the trunk as a present for Christmas from the dealer.

Despite going through CarsDirect.com (they supposedly negotiate the BEST price) I paid about what my 2005 Honda Accord was worth. The only advantage to the CarsDirect service is that I just went to the dealership, signed a few papers, gave them my money, and drove away. CarsDirect did all the hard work.

I got a great deal on my new truck. List price $52000, paid $38000. Very happy with the dealer and the veichle. Highly recomend Hanna Chrylser if you are shopping for a new veichle.

Not sure. Salesman was fine to get what I wanted. But the business manager who does the final approval and a price was pushy and just confused me. I do not like dickering.

I bought an 09 Corolla in '08. I felt like I got a great deal, the only thing that could have made it better would have been a 0.9% APR.

Keep in mind that the last time I bought a car was December of 2004, I went looking for a medium-to-high-performance road car, and I got a 2004 Chevy Impala SS for $24K - where it had a sticker of $33K! I loves me Red Tag Specials! Year-End, Last-Year's Model (as in, last model year), and YES, with an EPA rating of 18/28 on Premium, it's kind of a gas hog. But I get 20-24 around town, and 28-34 Highway, on REGULAR, with a factory Supercharger that WILL push me down the road just about as fast as any SANE person will EVER want to go, and I can still get that mileage any time I keep my foot out of the injectors and the fuel system clean. Think I'M going to go Cash for Clunkers any time soon? Not until The Lady wears out, or SOMEBODY starts selling Hydrogen-fueled turbine-powered cars! Thank-you-very-much!

I got a very good deal on my Subaru -- I purchased the Consumer Report New Car Price guide and I knew exactly what everything, each option or add-on, cost the dealer, so I could set the price I would pay. When I told them what I was offering and where I obtained my information, they did not argue and accepted my offer without comment.

edmunds.com = accurate value (use this if you're buying) kbb.com = ~10% overpriced (use this if you're selling)

I got a lousy mixed deal result. Car was totaled by a SUV that received minimal damage. Used cars that get great gas mileage like Civics go for a premium in the bay area even for a salvaged vehicle. Runs great but I had to go through a few mechanics until I found one that didn't try to rip me off. Now I drive 30 miles out of my way and take a half day off work to get my car serviced even for oil changes. Considering the economy now, people are able to get better deals for those that can still afford it.

Awesome deal! The last two vehicles were given to me as gifts from Grandma. Both Honda Accords. The gas mileage is good, insurance premiums are low, and you can drive them until the wheels fall off,

I got about $2000 off the sticker price and $400 less than Edmunds said was the price to pay, so I thought it was a good deal.

I got totally screwed! Traded in a 250,000 mile Toyota for a Dodge Wagon. Paid $3000 for the wagon only to learn it was one of the $99 clunkers that had been traded in the same day I bought it. Dealer had not inspected the vehicle and sold it "AS IS".
BEWARE THE CLUNKER!!

I paid $3000 cash for a car the lot just received as trade in. They hadn't had a chance to look it over or clean it... had they done so, it would have been $5000. I paid $1000 more for a warranty... it was just under the mileage limit for a 2 yr/20,000 mi. warranty, which fixed everything wrong with the car when I bought it. I've been driving it over 10 years now. I got my money's worth.

Great deal. This was in June 2008 and GM was running a (subsidized) lease special. They gave me 5000 in rebates while keeping the residual at 62% for a 39mo /39K miles lease on a Yukon XL and a good interest rate. The lease on the Yukon was about $100 cheaper then on an Acadia. They are going to lose big ($10K?) on the residual value when I return the SUV at the end of the lease.
Remember that gas was selling for 4.25/gallon then. My thinking was that I was only going to drive 1000 mi/month, so the gas price did not scare me too much. Luckily gas did go down.
As of July 1st, 2008, GMAC was no longer leasing cars....

It's hard to negotiate with the dealer when you're buying a rare or in demand car. Mine was being wheeled off the truck and I had to claim it then and there or it'd have been gone the next day.

I bought my car from a guy a few towns over that pretty much only sells saturns ((which is what I bought)). He let me take it out to get it checked out on my own. I took it to a couple places and they both told me that what he was asking was reasonable and pretty much what the car was worth.

Evidently, posters say what they want to say and don't read any further comments (discussion? NOT).
That sodium poured into the engine of the clunkers is actually sodium silicate, sometimes referred to as water glass - starts as a liquid and quickly gels and then solidifies.
------------------ My 2003 car was bought through the internet after research in different makes and dealers. The interest rate was 4% - no dealer incentives were being offered at the time, and this was not a bad rate. The only down side to the transaction was that the dealer where I had to go to pick up the car is more than 30 miles away - and at least three other dealers are within 10 miles.

I got a great deal at Gate City Lincoln Mercury. Bought a 05 Merc Grand Marquis in Nov. 07. Only had 18,500 miles. One owner (little ole lady: true) came in for oil change and traded on the spot for a new one. Price was right & financed by Ford Motor Co.

Got a great deal. It was the end of the year and just at the time when Chrysler was talking about closing out some dealerships. Got my 2008 for 10,100 by the time all was said and done. Even today the blue book price is 1k higher.
