I still like small displacement, forced induction motors (either gas or diesel). Mostly just for the enjoyable driving experience.

Produce much cheaper Hydrogen from Water and vehicles will produce water vapor and liquid water as exhaust. Hydrogen as a vehicle fuel will produce No pollution and is a much cleaner burning fuel. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe and reliable, has a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

Good. Less energy, and specifically less fossil fuel / energy. Use gray water, e.g. polluted water. Maybe we have something of a break through here.

"The technology is probably far from being commercialized. It still requires pretty high temperatures—a couple of hundred degrees higher, for example, than those used to drive steam turbines at coal and nuclear power plants. Producing those temperatures without fossil fuels would probably involve one of two technologies, neither of which is being used commercially right now"
We can always hope...

This could be good for the future. There is enough polluted water around, so I hope they don't plan on using our good drinking water.

Maybe this would be a way to make fuel cell vehicles practical.

Would not waste this process on the world's potable water; this process would hopefully work with contaminated waters and ocean water! Would have been nice, if the authors had clarified whether polluted or salt water, would work and if the exact type of manganese oxide (MnO/MnO2 were used and whether the manganese oxide were recoverable after the process.

To take it one step further, the recombination could result in a new method for water purification. This is a problem to be solved on the horizon since pure toxic free water is becoming more of a commodity.

Lots of water and salt on the planet; brings the question, how much manganese oxide is required for this process. Wonder if earth's supply of MnO is as abundant or is it a finite resource.

If it works it is a better idea but there is actually a world wide shortage of clean water so using it for vehicle fuel does not make a lot of sense.

I'd drive an internal combustion hydrogen engine any day. I think the fuel-cell idea is a waste, as are all these hybrids and EVs.

A step in the right direction. Proved it in the lab. As the article says... they have to do it on a larger scale and thousands of times in a row to prove it practical. This needs a wealthy private benefactor.
