Kia Motors may build Forte compact in U.S.

Reuters -- South Korean carmaker Kia Motors Corp is considering producing its new Forte compact car in the United States, an executive said during an earnings conference call on Friday, without elaborating.

Kia has its sole U.S. plant in Georgia, which produces its Optima mid-sized sedan, Sorento sport-utility vehicle and affiliate Hyundai Motor Co's Santa Fe SUV.

Kia plans to launch the fully revamped new Forte in the United States next year. It has already rolled out the model in South Korea and China, where it is called the K3.

For people who despise "outsourceing" of jobs to foreign countries. This example of Kia's is an example of "insourcing". Would you rather foreign companies to have no faith in American workers and decide it's not worth the risk of employing Americans. I want more insourcing, the more the better.

And to those who hate the fact that profits of foreign companies go overseas... unless the companies are state owned, they are owned by stockholders. You can invest in that company by purchasing their stock, than some of those profits will go to you.

Kind of sad to other countries build plants here, and GM can't make a profit without the governments help. GM will be bankrupt again in 4 years or less.

I'm always open to an automaker opening up a plant in the states. Though I would more likely buy a Toyota then a Kia, I hear great things about kia's.

Considering all the money that state infused in and gave money to Kia...... won't those jobs be classified as a government job????? (grin)

Too bad it's a foreign company. All the profits will go outside our country.
